Google ha appena inviato gli inviti per un evento che si terrà il prossimo 6 Giugno, probabilmente nel suo campus di Mountain View, dove presenterà la nuova versione di Google maps. Dal titolo dell’invito “The next dimension of Google Maps” si intuisce che la novità più importante sarà la visualizzazione in 3D; l’attuale versione permette già, grazie a WebGL, alcune visualizzazioni in 3D dei palazzi e dei monumenti ma la nuova dovrebbe elevare la qualità ed i servizi offerti prendendo spunto dall’ultima versione di Google Earth. Da notare che l’evento si terrà solo cinque giorni prima del WWDC di Apple (invece che durante il Google I/O di fine Giugno) nel corso del quale, molto probabilmente, la casa di Cupertino presenterà iOS 6 con la nuova funzione mappe in 3D sviluppata in autonomia abbandonando la versione di Google. Chiaro l’intento di battere sul tempo Apple anticipando l’evento di una settimana.

Google has just sent out invitations for an event that will take place on June 6, probably at its campus in Mountain View, where it will present the new version of Google maps. The subject “The next dimension of Google Maps” it is clear that the most important news will be displayed in 3D; the current version already allows, thanks to WebGL, some 3D views of buildings and monuments but new one should raise the quality and services offered taking inspiration from the latest version of Google Earth. Note that the event will be held only five days before Apple’s WWDC (rather than during the Google I O at the end of June) during which, most likely, the home of Cupertino will present iPhone OS 6 and the new function maps developed independently abandoning the 3D version of Google. Clearly the intention of beating the time of the Apple event a week.
